Yohimbe Tree Extract
Yohimbe Tree extract is used in alternative medicine as a sexual stimulant (for both women and men). However, in animal studies, it also has ability to control the effects of the natural release of adrenaline.
Adrenaline, as a compound, prompts physiological changes in the body, such as increased heart and metabolism rates in response to physical and mental stress.
As one result from this effect, research done in mice found that the extract accelerated recovery from anxiety disorders four times as fast as those treated with medication commonly used to treat symptoms of anxiety disorders by blunting the physiological effects of adrenaline.
The main active constituent in yohimbe bark is the alkaloid yohimbine.
Most of the available studies have been done with the yohimbine alkaloid, not the Yohimbe tree extract. Yohimbine is also an FDA approved drug for erectile dysfunction.
With Yohimbe, there are several potential side effects, particularly for anyone with a medical condition, particularly those with unstable hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, or those taking medicines, particularly tranquilizers, antidepressants, sedatives, antihistamines, amphetamines and other stimulants, including caffeine and herbal stimulants such as ginseng.
