Vitamin B6
Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) is essential for normal brain development and function.
It is part of the eight water soluble B vitamins, known better as B vitamin complex. These vitamins work in the metabolism of fats and protein and maintain muscle tone in the gastrointestinal tract and promote the health of the nervous system, skin, hair, eyes, mouth, and liver.
From anti aging perspective especially important is that together with vitamins B12 and B9, B6 vitamin controls blood levels of the amino acid homocysteine. In clinical studies, elevated levels of homocysteine appear to be linked to heart disease, one of the leading causes of death today.
In fact, some researchers consider homocysteine as important a cardiovascular risk factor as low-density lipoprotein (LDL). In this regard, homocysteine can make blood clot more easily than normal, which increases the risk of heart attack.
Also in terms of anti aging, pyridoxine aids in maintaining healthy nerve and muscle cells and hepls in the production of DNA and RNA, the body's genetic material.
In addition, the vitamin is necessary for proper absorption of vitamin B12 and for the production of red blood cells and cells of the immune system.
As the other B complex vitamins, B6 is also considered an anti-stress vitamin, as it improves body's immune system and its ability to fight stressful conditions.
