Vitamin B5

Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) is critical to the manufacture of red blood cells as well as sex and stress-related hormones produced in the adrenal glands.

The vitamin is one of eight water-soluble B vitamins, all of which help the body to convert carbohydrates into glucose, for energy for the body to use.

B complex vitamins also play an important role in maintaining muscle tone in the gastrointestinal tract and promoting the health of the nervous system, skin, hair, eyes, mouth, and liver.

From anti aging perspective, B5 vitamin is particularly important for its ability to assist in maintaining a healthy digestive tract and it helps the body use other vitamins (particularly vitamin B2) more effectively.

Also, this vitamin also enhances the activity of the immune system and improves the body's ability to withstand stressful conditions.

Vitamin B5 also fights aging because it is a constituent of coenzyme A, which is involved in many chemical reactions essential to life, including detoxification of dangerous substances.

From skin anti aging perspective, of particular interest has been of late a clinical study performed by Dr. Lit-Hung Leung in Singapore, in which vitamin B5 was effectively used for acne treatment. Taking any one of the B complex vitamins for a long period of time can result in an imbalance of other important B vitamins. For this reason, it is generally important to take a B complex vitamin with any single B vitamin.
