Sirtris PharmaceuticalsThe company has been listed on NASDAQ under symbol SIRT since 22/5/2007 and has large ownership base from such big time investors as Peter Lynch and John W. Henry. In research, activating sirtuin genes has been associated with similar aging delaying effects on animal studies as calorie restriction. The drugs and therapies under development from the Sirtris company have potential use in several illnesses, including Type 2 diabetes. So far, Sirtris has one drug candidate in active clinical trials, called SRT501. It is a proprietary formulation of resveratrol and has entered Phase 1b clinical trials for the treatment of Type 2 diabetes. Sirtris plans to have another Type 2 diabetes drug begin clinical trials by mid-2008. The company claims to have over 100 patents filed on sirtuins and has some of the top researchers on the field. However, some analysts predict that the company won't have a commercial product available until 2013.
