Shark Liver Oil
Shark liver oil has shown potential for anti aging due to the alkoxyglycerol in the oil, which is a substance which has immune supporting potential. Before real scientific studies started in 1922 (when alkoxyglycerols where found) with the oil, Scandinavian fishermen used the oil externally to speed up wound healing and internally as a food supplement. The active compounds, alkoxyglycerols, have since been found in various other sources, including human breast milk. They are particularly rich in colostrum, the first milk produced only for a few days after birth. Other active compounds that have been studied and found in the liver oil from sharks include squalamine, and squalene. The liver oil from shark is also a rich source of vitamins A and D. Currently, no strong conclusion can be found for the effectiveness of the oil in anti aging, but the individual compounds have shown promise in several aspects of immune system enhancement and anti aging.
