Rutin
Rutin is a citrus flavonoid antioxidant with an important role of attaching to the iron ion Fe2+, preventing it from binding to hydrogen peroxide and creating a highly reactive free radical.
In research, the compound has been associated with several positive health effects, including that it seems to strengthen the capillaries.
It may also help to reduce the cytotoxicity of oxidized LDL cholesterol and lower the risk of heart disease.
In total, it has been suggested that the compound may have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticarcinogenic, antithrombotic, cytoprotective and vasoprotective activities.
It has been suggested that it may also help prevent the oxidation of vitamin C and thus make it safer and more useful in some conditions.
