Probiotics
Probiotics are microbial food supplements, such as Lactobacillus Acidophilus, that aim to improve healthy intestinal microbial balance.
There are many ways in which the intestinal microbial balance can be disturbed, including stress, illness, and the use of antibiotics.
Several of the pro-biotic preparations are composed of bacteria naturally found in human intestines such as L.acidophilus, L.casei, Enterococcus faecium and Bifidobacterium bifidum.
The way in which these bacteria improve health is associated in research to production of antimicrobial substances, they adhere onto the gutwall (competing for space with pathogens), and stimulate immunity response.
