Plastic Surgery Addiction
According to some medical experts, many cases of plastic surgery addiction stem from negative body image including a condition called "body dysmorphic disorder".
Body dysmorphic disorder is a disorder that causes a person to consider him or herself to be unattractive, not matter how attractive they really are. Board certified New York plastic surgeon Dr. Sydney Coleman has said about the disorder: “BDD affects both men and women and manifests as a preoccupation with an imagined physical defect or an exaggerated concern about a minimal defect” According to Adam Searle, the president of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, there are people who develop a dependency on the support they appear to get from cosmetic surgery. This essentially means that cosmetic surgery can potentially be habit-forming due to it's perceived effects. The sense of psychological wellbeing after one procedure may fuel the notion that they would feel even better if they had another. The most famous people who has admitted to having an addiction to plastic surgery is Jenny Lee, who has appeared in Oprah.
