Olay Regenerist
Olay Regenerist is an skin anti aging product based on the discovery of palmitoyl pentapeptide-3's effects on aging skin. The discovery was made by corporations Sederma SA and Proctor & Gamble and the compound is found in some modern anti aging skin creams under the trademark name Matrixyl. The active compound in the Regenerist series, Matrixyl, consists of five amino acids linked together and attached to a fatty acid to enhance oil solubility for the sake of better skin penetration. Structurally, this combination is related to the precursor of collagen type I. Researchers found that when added to the culture of fibroblasts (the key skin cells), palmitoyl pentapeptide-3 stimulated the synthesis of the key constituents of the skin matrix: collagen, elastin and glucosamnoglycans. How exactly palmitoyl pentapeptide-3 did that remains unclear. In one clinical study, palmitoyl pentapeptide-3 was as effective as retinol in repairing sun-damaged skin but was devoid of the various side-effects associated with retinol. Apart from clinical studies, Consumer Reports tested in late 2006 nine popular anti-wrinkle creams, and reported that the Regenerist line from Olay topped the ratings in effectiveness.
