Macrobiotic Diets
Macrobiotic diets were partly pioneered and popularized by Michio Kushi, who has authored dozens of books on natural health. Mr. Kushi also founded, in 1978, the Kushi Institute, which is a leading macrobiotic educational center.
Though the original thinking behind the macrobiotic approach was very much influenced by Chinese and Japanese culture, most of the books on the subject have been westernized to make the program more easily follow-able. Much of the emphasis of the macrobiotic approach by Michio Kushi is on cancer prevention. This is because of the extensive work by Kushi and others with cancer patients and macrobiotic dietary programs. As is the case with other diet programs, you should also consider the risks of starting on such a program. Some of the dangers are discussed at, for example, health.yahoo.com/health/alternative_medicine /alternative_therapies/Macrobiotic_Diet/ .
