Lipase

Lipase is a digestive enzyme that is responsible for breaking down fats, in particular triglycerides, digested from dietary sources.

In the body, the enzyme is produced in the pancreas but is also produced in the mouth and stomach.

Other pancreatic enzymes include amylase, which breaks down amylose into its sugar building blocks, and protease, which breaks down protein.

Poor eating habits, which may include inadequate chewing and eating, can result in inadequate enzyme production and hence malabsorption of food.

And this is effect is increased with aging, as aging is associated with decreased hydrochloric acid production as well as of a general decline in digestive enzyme secretion.
