Huperzine A
Huperzine A has been shown in studies to inhibit acetylcholinesterase, enzyme that breaks down acetylcholine, which is is involved in memory and learning.
More acetylcholine becomes available to stimulate neurons as the actions of acetylcholinesterase are inhibited.
In research, the huperzine extract (from a club moss (Huperzia serrata)) has also been found to be beneficial in patients with Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer’s disease is a condition where there’s a relative shortage of acetylcholine, which might explain the suggestions of positive effect.
Studies also have shown promise that the extract might have positive impact on improvement in memory, cognition, and behavioral functions.
