Horny Goat Weed ExtractOther alternative medicine uses of the plant extract include use for disorders of the kidneys, joints, and liver. In animal studies the action behind the extract has been contributed to activation of neurotransmitters such as norepinephrine, serotonin, and dopamine and to reduced cortisol levels. The leaves of horny goat weed contain flavonoids, sterols, and an alkaloid called magnaflorine. One of the flavonoids, Icariin, has shown promise in studies for helping erectile function.
