Glutamine

Glutamine is a amino acid that provides fuel for various cells of the immune system and is a critical component in wound repair.

Research on the amino acid suggests that it may have a wide range of potential uses in prevention and treatment of several conditions.

These include recovery from illness and aiding immune system when the body is overstressed, from, for example, physical training.

Also, some researchers have suggested that the compound may have a role in treating food allergies.

From anti aging perspective, however, perhaps most important finding has been that glutamine has been shown to increase the levels of antioxidant glutathione in the body. Declining levels of glutathione have been associated with the aging process.

Due to the amino acid's suggested role in recovery from bodily stresses, the compound has been popular among athletes during intense training periods.
