Flaxseed Oil

Flaxseed oil is rich in alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), an essential fatty acid, with a range of potential health benefits, plus it has chemicals called lignans that may help in prevention of cancer.

ALA, as well as EPA and DHA, belongs to a group called omega-3 fatty acids, which have shown potential in clinical studies in the prevention of heart disease, inflammatory bowel disease, arthritis and a variety of other health conditions.

However, in the diet, omega-3 acids should be balanced with another fatty acid group, called omega-6.

One such source of balanced ratio of omega-3 and omega-6 acids has been said to be the Mediterranean diet, which has shown in studies to lead towards higher HDL ("good") cholesterol levels.

For dietary purposes, oil from Flaxseed is obtained from the seed of the flax plant. It contains 50% to 60% omega-3 fatty acids.
