Ferulic Acid

Ferulic acid is an antioxidant that has shown promise in studies for prevention against cancer, bone degeneration, menopausal symptoms (hot flushes).

As an antioxidant, the compound is also associated with reducing the levels of cholesterol and triglyceride, thus reducing the risk of hearth disease.

Specific animal studies and in vitro studies on the compound suggest that it may have direct antitumor activity against breast cancer and liver cancer.

The compound has been suggested to have pro-apoptotic effects in cancer cells, leading to their destruction.

In other studies, the compound has shown promise as being effective at preventing cancer induced by exposure to the carcinogenic compounds benzopyrene and 4-nitroquinoline 1-oxide.

However, no controlled human studies have been done so far on these issues, thus leaving the effectiveness in humans unconfirmed.
