Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is a plastic surgery procedure that aims to rejuvenate the eyelids by removal of fat, as well as possibly excess skin, and muscle.
The surgery method can rejuvenate the appearance of drooping upper lids and puffy bags below the eyes.
However, the procedure can not remove crow's feet around the eyes or other wrinkles, nor eliminate dark circles under the eyes, or lift sagging eyebrows.
Sometimes the surgery is complemented by other procedures that provide rejuvenation to other parts of the face or other body parts.
According to research on the surgery method, some medical conditions make blepharoplasty more risky, including thyroid problems such as hypothyroidism and Graves' disease, dry eye or lack of sufficient tears, high blood pressure or other circulatory disorders, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and a detached retina or glaucoma.
As with all plastic surgery methods, also this one carries significant risks with it, including that some patients may have difficulty closing their eyes when they sleep.
