Epitalon
Epitalon is a cytogen, a synthetic tetrapeptide, which has been found to have an anti aging profile.
This anti aging profile has been linked to the compound's interaction with the pineal gland.
In research, the peptide has been shown to restore diurnal rhythms of the activity of the pineal gland in aged rhesus monkeys and the peptide has also most of the antiaging effectiveness of another antiaging peptide epithalamin.
Also, the compound has been found to prolong the integrity of the visual functions in rats with a hereditary pigmental degeration of the eye retina.
As is the case with epithalamin, much of the antiaging effects may be associated to pineal gland products, such as melatonin.
Melatonin has a range of antiaging effects in studies, including regulation of the reproductive function, suppression of certain types of tumors, and affecting mitochondrial functions.
Much of how the compound and many other antiaging peptides work, still needs further research.
