Compare Anti Wrinkle Eye Cream

A major study to compare anti wrinkle eye cream was done by Consumer Reports in early 2007.

For the test, which was done by Consumer Reports and Consumers Union’s French counterpart, l’Union Fédérale des Consommateurs-Que Choisir, they chose a sample of best-selling mass-market anti aging cream lines (Olay, L’Oréal, RoC, La Prairie, StriVectin).

To compare the effectiveness of these products, they bought them in retail stores, and covered the labels on all so that the women wouldn’t know which brand they were using.

Each woman used a test product on one side of her face and the lab’s standard moisturizer on the other for comparison.

The moisturizer had a sunscreen but no anti-aging ingredients.

The test users were asked to apply the creams as they normally would in their faces, but especially making sure to rub them into the crow’s-feet area that is typical with eye anti aging creams, at the outer corner of their eyes.

What they found, at the end of the 12-week test, was that the most effective cream was the Olay Regenerist, which the test users had used with day cream, night cream, and a serum (which was the same as the “enhancing lotion,” “perfecting cream,”and “regenerating serum” combination that the company recommends).

Even this best performer reduced the average depth of wrinkles by less than 10 percent, a magnitude of change that was barely visible to the naked eye.

The report is available in full at the consumerreports.org website.

You might also be interested in the test done by the British BBC science program Horizon, which tested different anti aging creams in Britain.

According to their test results and the winning product, "At both basic science and clinical levels, Boots' No. 7 Protect & Perfect [the British name] has been shown scientifically to repair photo-aged skin and improve fine wrinkles associated with photo-aging."

The tests showed that the cream that was first introduced in 2005 stimulated the production of fibrillin, a protein associated with the creation of collagen and elastin and lead to marked improvements in wrinkle depth.
