Beta Sitosterol
Beta Sitosterol is a plant extract that has consistently improved urinary symptoms related to prostate enlargement in clinical studies. In addition to the compound, there are several other herb supplements that have been found to have similar effects on prostate conditions. These herbs include Saw palmetto, Bee Pollen extract, pygeum, and nettle root extracts. In terms of anti aging regimen, this compound has shown much promise beyond prostate conditions, however. One study found, using the prostate cancer cell line LNCaP (an androgen dependent tumor), that beta-sitosterol decreased cancer cell growth by 24% and induced apoptosis (programmed cell death) four-fold. In addition, Dr. Atif B. Awad and his team at the State University of New York at Buffalo have found that beta-sitosterol inhibits prostate and breast cancer cell growth, and induces cell cycle arrest.
