Chris Griffiths, professor of dermatology at the University of Manchester, and his team took the task of comparing and testing different anti aging creams for BBC’s "Horizon" TV program in 2007.

The team undertook the test to prove that none of the products was efficient in delivering anti aging results.

However, much to their surprise, contrary to what they expected, their determination was that a brand from Boots, called Boots No 7 Restore & Renew (under which it is sold in the US, the UK name is Protect & Perfect), did in fact deliver what the product promised in terms of anti aging effectiveness.

To do the test, the University of Manchester team administered the study on 60 volunteers for a period of 6 months.

The active ingredients in the Boots 7 include white lupin (a flower extract) and retinyl palmitate (an A vitamin derivative) and a moisturizer.

It also contains lipo-pentapeptide, which is a peptide created from amino acids grown in laboratories.

According to Boots, the particular lipo-pentapeptide used in the serum promotes the production of fibrillin in the cells between the outer layer of skin and the supporting layer beneath to promote in the creation of elastin and collagen, which keep the skin youthful and plumb.
