Atkins Diet Foods

The Atkins diet approach to different foods is summarized in the Atkins Lifestyle Food Guide Pyramid.

This pyramid is in fact a proposal to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) by the Atkins Physicians Council (APC) for a new food guide pyramid that supports a controlled-carbohydrate lifestyle.

According to Atkins Nutritionals Inc., USDA is proposing the development of as many as 12 new versions of the existing Food Guide Pyramid.

The Atkins Lifestyle Food Guide Pyramid emphasizes a wide range of protein sources and nutrient-dense carbohydrates, such as most vegetables, certain fruits, nuts, dairy products and whole grains, that have a low impact on blood sugar.

The Atkins food guide pyramid also takes into account the impact of increasing physical activity on optimal nutrition.
