Anti Wrinkle Recipes
In ancient Egypt, the typical anti wrinkle cream recipe included a teaspoon of sweet almond oil, and two drops of frankincense oil. These were massaged into cleansed skin each night as an nightly cream. Other ingredients popular for anti aging in ancient Egypt included almonds, Egyptian henna (for hair), and Aloe Vera. While the ancient Egyptians used almond oil extracted from bitter almonds, typical modern day anti wrinkle variations include sweet almond oil. Cleopatra also reportedly used, in her recipe, oils, grass, and fermented fruit juices. As a side note, Cleopatra was also ahead of her time, as she reportedly took baths in sour mild (which contain lactic acid) to improve her complexion. Today, such hydroxy acids, especially Alpha Hydroxy Acids which are derived from milk sugars, are commonly used in anti aging skin care products. They cause the sun to be very sun sensitive, so you need (and Cleopatra would have needed) a strong sun screen to protect the skin while using these products. Also, until recently, many thought the the fruits juices in the composition for Cleopatra's anti aging cream were added for aromatherapy, but recent studies have indicated that these fruit extracts in the facial cream should have had special benefits for the aging skin.
