Anti Aging Wrinkle Treatment Cream
Of the two, Boots No 7 Protect & Perfect was tested, among other products, by the BBC science program Horizon and by Prof. Chris Griffiths, a dermatologist and his team from the University of Manchester. Their original aim was to show that none of the products tested worked as an anti wrinkle cream. However, the Boots product did something that the researchers had not expected - it actually did what it promised in terms of anti wrinkle effectiveness. To test the product, they had 30 volunteers using a placebo and 30 using the product daily for six months. The serum seems to contain two main active ingredients that are thought to be doing the work in smoothing out the wrinkles. One of these is called "white lupin", which has been found in the laboratory tests to stimulate collagen. Collagen is lost in older skin and leads to it losing volume and structure. The other is called "retinyl palmitate", a derivative of retinol (Vitamin A) which was shown over 30 years ago to reduce brown spots and wrinkling associated with ageing. The way this ingredient has been shown to work its magic is by restoring fibrillin, which is a protein that is affected by sun damage. Prof. Griffiths concluded on the effectiveness: "At both the basic science and clinical levels, Boots No 7 Protect & Perfect has been shown scientifically to repair photo-aged skin and improve the fine wrinkles associated with photo-aging." The product is called Boots Restore & Renew Serum in the United States. In the nine months after the results were revealed in 2007, Boots sold 6 million 30ml tubes of Boots No 7 Protect and Perfect to customers. The other effective anti aging wrinkle cream that is available over the counter has been determined to be Olay Regenerist by consumer reports in their 2007 comparison. For their report, they compared several generally available, over the counter anti aging wrinkle treatment cream types over a 14 week period, of which Olay Regenerist performed the best. However, the overall result was still a reduction of the wrinkles by less than 10 percent, meaning barely visible results. There are several products available for wrinkle reduction through prescription, such as those containing tretinoin, an A vitamin derivative. These products need to be sold through prescription because they have several potential side effects, including, for tretinoin, the need for high SPF sun protection and the potential for liver damage, to name a few.
