Amylase

Amylase is a digestive enzyme, which aids the body in digesting carbohydrates and thus assists the body's immune system.

Other pancreatic enzymes include protease, which breaks down protein into single amino acids.

Enzyme deficiencies in general can cause poor digestion and inhibit your body from absorbing the nutrients it requires to sustain good health.

Some say that digestive problems are one of the leading health concerns in America today. Dr. Edward Howell even has suggested that "the length of life is inversely proportional to the rate of exhaustion of the enzyme potential of the organism", meaning the more readily your body can produce enzymes, the longer and healthier you will live.

Age has an effect on the body's ability to produce enzymes and processing and cooking foods depletes these foods much from their natural enzymes.
