Alpha Carotene

Alpha carotene is a precursor to Vitamin A, and has antioxidant qualities similar to other carotenoids, such as beta carotene.

However, as a precursor to vitamin A, alpha-carotene is only about half as effective as beta-carotene.

More importantly from anti aging perspective, however, it has been suggested that alpha-carotene may be even more effective than beta-carotene in its role as an antioxidant.

As an antioxidant, the compound has a role in preserving overall health of the body, and in preventing age related diseases, including heart disease and cancer.

Alpha-carotene contains flavonoids, which are antioxidant substances that give color and flavor to many orange- and red-colored fruits and vegetables.
